Amazing place of Fort Bourtange, Bourtange, Netherlands is one of the star forts in the village of Bourtange, Groningen, Netherlands.
It was established in 1593 following the orders of William the Silent. Its real purpose was to control the only road between Germany and the town of Groningen, which was managed by the Spaniards through the time of the Eighty Years’ War.
After facing the last war in 1672, the Fort turned into a village in 1851 and continued to serve the protected networks in the German border. Now fort Bourtange currently works as a historical museum.
